A 70 year old lady was admitted into Indo American Hospital with sudden onset of severe headache followed by vomiting and loss of consciousness for a few minutes. She had been taken to local hospital and was evaluated at first. CT scan of head showed bleed (Subarachnoid haemorrhage – SAH) & she was referred to our hospital for further treatment. She underwent a CT angiogram, which showed Basilar Artery Aneurysm. Ruptured Aneurysm (balloon like out pouching from artery) is one of common cause of spontaneous haemorrhage in the Brain. As open surgery in this location is difficult and has more complications the patient underwent key-hole surgery (Endovascular Neurosurgery) – coiling of aneurysm – a best suited treatment option in this case. Coiling involves placing small coils directly into the aneurysm, effectively filling it up and preventing blood from entering it, performed from key-hole in groin artery. Blood filling into aneurysm was completely stopped and after surgery, the patient did well.
