The Department was one of the first in Kerala in the private sector to have Neurosurgical operating microscope and CUSA imported from the United States. Most commonly performed Brain surgeries are for Brain tumours, clipping of Cerebral Aneurysms, excision of AVMs, congenital conditions of the Brain and for traumatic Brain injury and intracranial Hematomas. Dr. K. Bahuleyan did his MBBS from Govt. Medical College Madras in the year 1954 and did his FRCS (Edinburgh) and FRCS (Glasgow) in the year 1962 & 1964 from UK and he completed his MD from US. Dr. Bahuleyan was the first Neurosurgeon of the State of Kerala. He started as Asst. Professor of Neurological Surgery at Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum. He joined the Indian Defense Forces as its first Neurosurgeon in the year 1964. He later moved to Buffalo in New York State and worked as a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Asst. Professor of Neurosurgery till 1996. He started Indo American Hospital in the year 1998 and has been working as Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Professor Emeritus since then.

Dr. Sajeev S Vadakkedam completed his MBBS degree in the year 2000 from Govt. Medical College, Kottayam. He obtained MS in General Surgery in 2005 and MCH Neurosurgery in 2008, both from Government medical College Kottayam. He underwent Post-Doctoral Certificate Course (PDCC) in advanced spine surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.
